Echogram

The echogram is a very important innovation in the world of medicine. Also referred to as the echocardiogram or in the medical circles as the cardiac ECHO, the echogram has advanced the abilities of modern medicine regarding detection and prevention of diseases. The echogram or echocardiogram acts as a cardiac ultrasound, using the same standard technology as ultrasound techniques in order to generate a two dimensional image of the cross section of a patient’s heart. Nowadays, further advancements in medical technology have allowed for ultrasound systems to be able to reflect three dimensional images in real time.

Aside from its ability to create two or three dimensional images of a patient’s cardiovascular cavity and system, the echogram is also capable of putting out a very precise assessment of the speed or velocity of blood and tissue in the cardiac area during any point in time. This is possible with the use of Doppler ultrasound.

Echocardiography was actually one of the earlier medical applications of the technology of ultrasound. Early on, its application was through intravenous contrast-enhanced ultrasound, which is a technique that uses gas filled micro-bubbles that are injected into a patient’s system to improve tissue and blood delineation.
