The echocardiogram machine is the machine that is used by doctors and certified medical technicians to be able to run or perform diagnostic tests to evaluate and study a patient’s heart and how it functions. This non-invasive procedure allows the patient and their doctors to both be able to observe the heart as it functions together in real time with the help of a monitoring device. The echocardiogram is widely used on pediatric cardiac patients as well.
The echocardiogram machine works as an ultrasound test. First, the patient must lie down on a table or cot found in their doctor’s own examining room. A little conductive gel is used, which is a gel with a consistency similar to hair products. The conductive gel is spread over the patient’s chest, and will cover the surface that the transducer will pass through in order to examine the cardiovascular area. The high frequency sound waves made by the echocardiogram machine brings back information to a processing computer, which then in turn creates the images that can be monitored. The echocardiogram machine is able to do this with the help of the sound waves that bounce off certain areas of the chest cavity, thus giving the machine an amount of information to interpret.
